CAAHEP Accredited and ABRET Recognized Programs
(1) EEG experience is defined as experience in clinical EEG for a period equivalent to 32 hrs/wk (1664 hrs). Sleep experience is not considered equivalent to clinical EEG experience.
(2) Complete an in-person assessment hosted by ABRET – or – Successful completion of ASET's EEG 202 online course and have a current R. EEG T. sign off on your in-house assessment. Eligibility is granted for two years. Download forms here.
(3) ASET Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) are a product of ASET (www.aset.org) and can be earned at any point during the EEG experience within the last 5 years. No more than 50% of hours may be earned from ASET journal quizzes.
Completion of Documentation Form
1. The Candidate must be present and an active participant in the set-up, troubleshooting, and monitoring of each case listed, in its entirety.
2. ABRET will accept documentation of up to three recordings per day. Do not submit more than the requested number of cases.
3. EEGs must be within the last 5 years with 25% completed within 24 months of application.
4. Ambulatory and Long Term Monitoring may not count toward the required number of EEGs unless a routine EEG is recorded as a baseline.
5. A routine EEG must be a minimum of 20 minutes in length, including montage changes and activation.
6. Documentation forms will be randomly audited, which can delay or negate eligibility.
The R. EEG T. credential is awarded for five years. See the options under Recertification for more information.
After 3 unsuccessful attempts to pass the examination within a 2-year timeframe, candidates must wait 6 months and submit 20 EEG ASET credits.

EEG T. sign off on your in-house assessment. CEUs earned from this course will also count toward the exam application CEU requirement.

EEG 202 Electrodes, Electrode Placement & Application Methods
Course Description: This course provides information on how to accurately measure and apply electrodes according to the International 10-20 System of Electrode Placement. It introduces learners to electrode nomenclature, electrode types, and their composition as well as appropriate electrode disinfection methods. Steps for electrode application are described and illustrated with consideration to skin preparation, impedances, skin safety, and placement modification needs. Proven techniques to achieve secure and accurate electrode placement are presented, using collodion and paste application methods. Pointers on how to avoid common errors are addressed along with steps to achieve success with pediatric and neonatal populations. This course includes click-and-drag exercises to familiarize learners with electrode nomenclature, a professionally filmed video demonstration showing how to measure and apply electrodes, and a newly developed 3-D model exercise for practicing these important skills.
Required Reading: Literature is provided. No additional books or materials are required.

EEG candidates may complete the Petition of EEG Eligibility Form to petition their eligibility at the time of application if:
- You have had structured of formal training in neurodiagnostics, but have not earned a degree.*
- You can substantiate education equivalent to at least an associate's degree (foreign medical degree, or vocational education in healthcare field).
- You have a combination of college credits and medical experience.
*Structured is defines as any organized learning institution or program that has defined class work, core instruction and measurable outcomes. On the job training is NOT considered structured learning.
