EEG Laboratory Accreditation recognized by US News & World Report

EEG Lab Accreditation by ABRET was among the criteria used to assess pediatric neurology and neurosurgery programs for US News & World Report’s America’s Best Children’s Hospitals 2010 rankings.  It was the first time that ABRET accreditation was included.  The rankings are available online at www.usnews.com/childrenshospitals. 

ABRET’s Lab Accreditation process evaluates technical standards, the quality of the laboratory’s output and lab management issues. Successful accreditation means the EEG Laboratory has met strict standards and is to be recognized as a place where patients and physicians can have confidence they are receiving quality diagnostics.  For the U.S. News ranking, 450 pediatric facilities were surveyed in various specialties, including neurology and neurosurgery, and asked for detailed information, including ABRET EEG Lab Accreditation.

The American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) is the credentialing board for EEG, Evoked Potential, Long Term Monitoring, and Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring Technologists. ABRET was organized in 1964 through a joint effort by the American Society of Electroencephalographic Technologists (ASET) and the American EEG Society (AEEGS) (now the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society). The Laboratory Accreditation Board was founded in 2004.
